Abstract ( 1427 ) PDF (KB) ( 7 )

China is one of the countries possessing the richest biodiversity resources in the world. As a mega-diversity country within global biodiversity, China has varied ecosystems, vegetation, species and rich genetic diversity. China's plant life is enormously rich, some 30,000 plant species are native to China, among them 7,500 are indigenous species of trees and shrubs, and China's fauna is also enormously rich. Statistics show that there are 6,347 species of vertebrates (including 1,244 species of birds and 3,862 species of fishe) found in China. The endemic plant species are as many as 17,300; endemic vertebrates are 667 species; Western China consists of six provincs being Gansu, Guizhou, Shanxi, Sichuan, Qinghai, and Yunnan, and five Autonomous Regions being Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, Inner-Mongolian Autonomous Region, Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region, Xinjiang Ugur Autonomous Region and Xizang Autonomous Region and Chongqing Municipality, covers a land area of 6.98 million km~2, comprising approximately 70% of China's total landmass and more than 75% of the plant and animal species. The population of the area is approximately 405 million, many of which are ethnic minorities. The multicultural status of human population and cultural diversity make Western China a unique area of bio-cultural diversity in China. On theother hand, Western China faces rural poverty, degradation of natural resources and environment, and the marginalization of etnic minority people. This paper discusses bio-cultural diversity in Western China and its potential contribution to economic development and the urgent need for conservation of nature and culture in the area in order to sustain development and environment in the country.

2002, 19 (2): 125-128.  DOI: 10.7523/j.issn.2095-6134.2002.2.005
Abstract ( 1074 ) PDF (KB) ( 0 )

An investigation was conducted which is based on the Ames'test mutagenic effect and main organic pollutants for water samples containing different contents of organic pollutants, including source waters, tap waters and their purified waters using different combination treatment techniques. The results show that the mutagenic effect index MA ( TA 98) has a positive relationship with total organic carbon (TOC) for the water samples. On the basis of this, further discussion was made on the relationship between the MA index and the content of polyarmatic, pesticide, and phenol from the water samples. This paper has given us recognition on drinking water mutagenic effect, and helps improve deep treatment techniques for obtaining high quantity drinking water.

2002, 19 (2): 129-133.  DOI: 10.7523/j.issn.2095-6134.2002.2.006
Abstract ( 1014 ) PDF (KB) ( 0 )

Monthly observation of the Caragana Stenophylla-Stipa spp. community aboveground biomass at desert grassland in Mu Us Sandland was made during 1985~1991 and monthly muti-regression models were presented. Precipitation, temperature and sunshine hour is shown to play different role during plant growth and water is the main restricted variable influencing plant growth. The range of biomass change under three different climatic conditions is predicted by applying the monthly models. To show the advantage of the monthly models to the traditional simulated model, the simulated biomass by monthly models and accumulative model were compared.

2002, 19 (2): 177-181.  DOI: 10.7523/j.issn.2095-6134.2002.2.014
Abstract ( 465 ) PDF (KB) ( 0 )

The traditional fractal image compression coding that was designed by Barnsley is to divide an image that wants to be coded, then fractal image compression coding is begun with a compression dictionary that is made up from the image. For this reason, the compression dictionary is always changeable. Firstly, this paper measures "Julia curves"with square patterns by many ways, then "Julia curves"of measurement apply to coding fractal image and eliminate the defect that fractal image compression coding depends on changeable code compression dictionary. In addition, this paper also builds a small common dictionary that applys to speeding up fractal image compression coding. The experimental results show that the "Julia curves"can collage fractal image to be encoded very well and has some fractal image merit decoding.

2002, 19 (2): 186-191.  DOI: 10.7523/j.issn.2095-6134.2002.2.016
Abstract ( 1061 ) PDF (KB) ( 0 )

Based on the previous works, the Schrdinger equation of the hydrogen-like atom is analytically solved further. Three sets of analytical solutions are obtained if the factor r~ -nis not neglected. The first solution is the same as the traditional radial wave function, the second diverges, and the last one is quite different from the traditional solution. On the consideration of the finite size of the nuclear, the third wave function does not diverge when r approaches to zero. Its radial wave function has the following characteristics: (1) the angular-momentum quantum number l must be greater than the principal quantum number n; (2) l must not be 0 or 1; (3) the electron-cloud distribution differs from the traditional one; (4) the electron is closer to the nuclear than that in traditional results. On the other hand, the validity of solutions needs to be verified experimentally.

Great Magnetic Entropy Change in Heusler Alloys Ni-Mn-Ga and NaZn13-Type Compounds La(Fe,Co,M)13, M=Si, Al
HU Feng-Xia, SHEN Bao-Gen
2002, 19 (2): 192-197.  DOI: 10.7523/j.issn.2095-6134.2002.2.017
Abstract ( 1158 ) PDF (KB) ( 0 )

Very large magnetic entropy change △S in a wide temperature range was discovered in Heusler alloys Ni-Mn-Ga and NaZn13-type compounds La(Fe,Co,M)13, M=Si, Al. In room temperature range, the achieved △S in both materials significantly exceeds that of Gd and reaches that of Gd5Si2Ge2, which is well known for its giant magnetocaloric effect. The great △S in Heusler alloys Ni-Mn-Ga originates from the first-order martensitic-austensitic structural transition and the giant △S in La(Fe,Co,M13, M=Si, Al is associated with a strong structural and magnetic interplay, characterized by a drastic lattice contraction at Curie temperature T C. The superiority of low cost and giant magnetic entropy change suggests that both Heusler alloys Ni-Mn-Ga and NaZn13-type compounds La(Fe,Co,M13, M=Si, Al are promising candidates for magnetic refrigerants in an extended high temperature range, especially at room temperature.

Test Generation Based on Behavioral Model at RT-Level and Delay Testing
LI Hua-Wei, LI Zhong-Cheng
2002, 19 (2): 198-201.  DOI: 10.7523/j.issn.2095-6134.2002.2.018
Abstract ( 406 ) PDF (KB) ( 3 )

The growing complexity of modern ICs is driving the trend of automatic test pattern generation (ATPG) towards testing at high level, particularly at register transfer level (RTL). At the same time, it is also more critical to perform delay testing to ensure correct temporal behavior of fast digital systems than before. This dissertation first surveys the recent development of test generation and delay testing techniques. Then, a new level of description on RTL behavioral model, termed behavioral phase clustering description, is introduced. Techniques of test generation based on behavioral phase clustering descriptions are proposed, and applied to an RTL ATPG system called ATCLUB. Experimental results show that ATCLUB reduces CPU time and test length significantly compared with other ATPG systems. This dissertation also introduces a novel method of delay testing with variable double observations. And a new approach to delay fault diagnosis based on the method is proposed. These techniques are adopted in DTwDO, a delay testing system based on variable double observations, including a ATPG tool and a fault diagnosis tool. Experimental results demonstrate a significant reduction of the number of paths to be selected to guarantee a complete delay testing, and a high rate of successful fault location.

Magnetostratigraphy and Sedimentology of the Eolian Deposits Since the Late Miocene in Northern China and the Paleoclimatic Implications
YANG Shi-Ling, DING Zhong-Li
2002, 19 (2): 202-208.  DOI: 10.7523/j.issn.2095-6134.2002.2.019
Abstract ( 398 ) PDF (KB) ( 2 )

In this study, two thick loess-red clay sequences located at Lingtai and Jingchuan, the Chinese Loess Plateau, are studied with emphases on magnetostratigraphy and sedimentology. Paleomagnetic measurements show that the Jingchuan red clay has a basal age of 8.0 Ma, which is one million years older than the previously studied Lingtai section. Field observations and grain size analyses both suggest an eolian origin of the red clay sediments at Lingtai and Jingchuan, thus extending available records of the eolian deposits in the Loess Plateau from 2.6 Ma back to 7.0~8.0 Ma. Correlation of five red clay sections in the Loess Plateau suggests that the Lingtai red clay sequence has a relatively continuous nature of sedimentation and can be regarded as the type-section of the Tertiary red clay deposits in northern China. On the basis of spatial changes in the grain size of one northwest-southeast loess transect, several semiquantitative models of grain size parameters versus the minimum distance from the source region to depositional areas were developed. According to these models, the estimated southeastern margin of the desert in northern China during the Tertiary red clay development is similar to that of the present Badain Jaran desert. To reconstruct the long-term East-Asia monsoon history from the celebrating eolian red clay-loess deposits, the ratios of CBD-extractable Fe2O3 to totalFe2O3 concentrations in the Lintai red clay-loess sequence, the proxy indicator for the summer monsoon changes, were measured. The LingtaiFe2O3 ratio record indicates that the East-Asia summer monsoon has experienced a non-linear evolution over the past seven million years. The strongest East Asia summer monsoon may occur between 4.1 and 4.8 Ma, which may be causally related to the relatively small ice volume and high global temperature during the early Pliocene.

2002, 19 (2): 215-218.  DOI: 10.7523/j.issn.2095-6134.2002.2.021
Abstract ( 498 ) PDF (KB) ( 1 )

The effects of molecular chaperones, protein aggregation and macromolecular crowding on protein folding have been studied. It has been demonstrated that there are two binding ways between molecular chaperone GroEL and its substrates, "all of sites" and "half of sites", depending on the shape, the size of substrates and the interaction between GroEL and substrates. It has also provided insights into a mechanism of cells to prevent protein folding against interference from aggregation of other proteins. In addition, it has been suggested that pre-molten globule state of α-lactalbumin is the target not only for chaperones but also for protein aggregates. Finally, it has displayed the complexity and the diversity of effects of macromolecular crowding on both the thermodynamics and kinetics of protein folding and assembly.

2002, 19 (2): 219-221.  DOI: 10.7523/j.issn.2095-6134.2002.2.022
Abstract ( 318 ) PDF (KB) ( 3 )

Yutangba village, located in the northern part of Shuanghe Town of Enshi City in the SW of Hubei Province, China, is the unique location in the world where a sudden incidence of Se poisoning took place in 1963. It is one of the most typical high-Se areas in Enshi Prefecture, and thus it is selected as our study area. The results from studies show that native Se, which varies morphologically due to different mechanisms, has been discovered within the abandoned stone coal spoils and Se-rich carbonaceous siliceous rock. Krutaite(CuSe2), mandarinoite(Fe2(SeO3)3) and other Se minerals are also found. In the black Se-rich rocks of Yutangba, Refractory-Se and Organic-Se are predominant, the others are sulfide or selenide-Se, elemental Se and available Se, respectively. The processes of forming elemental Se is not only the key phase for Se transforming among the different Se fractions in Se-rich rocks, and also for Se releasing, mobilizing and transporting during Se-rich rocks weathering. The Se-rich carbonaceous siliceous rock and carbonaceous shale of the Permian Maokou and Wujiaping are the predominant factors for Yutangba to develop into a high-Se area. The manners of cultivating activities and life of local inhabitants are the main factors that cause Se to accumulate in food chain, and high risk of Se poisoning occurrence is mainly controlled by Se content in corn (main food). So, Yutangba is still a high risk area to villagers, where Se poisoning is possible to take place.
