Abstract: Theuniversallyremarkablepatternofviscousdebrisflowisintermittentsurge.Accordingtofield observationofJiangjiaravinesince1961,basedonanalyzingthedischargeseriesdata,distributionofdischargehasbeenfoundtobewellfittedbyexponentialfunctionwithexponentvarying with the maximal discharge.Andthe exponentiscloselyrelatedtotheprocessofthetemporalfeatureofthesurgeseries.Furthermore,thesurge dischargeinaseriespresentsremarkablefeatureofdecayingwhichisalsodeterminedbythepeakdischarge.Thatis,surgeserieswithhigherpeakdischargefallsatsteeperslope.Thefeaturesrevealedinthispapershouldbe the intrinsicofdebrisflow.
