Abstract: The purpose of this study is to find out the measured morphology differences of a patient-specific abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) between the 2D and 3D image technique. The 34 AAA models were reconstructed based on the computed tomography scan images using Mimics software, and the geometry parameters were measured and compared with those values using the 2D images.Compared with the results using the 3D model, the measurement errors in the artery diameters using the 2D images were less than 15%, but the errors in some parameters such as the longest and shortest axes of the maximum cross section of the AAA were significant. In addition, the angle parameters showed big differences between the two different measurement methods. The conclusions are that the parameter values measured using the 2D images were far from the values measured using the 3D models. We suggest to measure the morphology parameters of a patient-specific AAA using the 3D images for clinic practice.
